Arbor Day 2016 plantings in the Mulick Park neighborhood in Grand Rapids. An Army of volunteers showed up to help plant trees in the Park in observance of Arbor Day. Dan Monsma from Monsma Landscape & Maintenance was assigned to lead a group of ladies from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Fun was had by all!

WHEREAS, trees were important to Mr. J. Sterling Morton, who started Arbor Day more than 100 years ago, and
WHEREAS, unlike other holidays, Arbor Day, asks all of us to look to the future, the near future and the far future. Arbor Day reminds us that must take care of our Earth not only for ourselves, but also for people who will be born long after us, and
WHEREAS, the trees we plant today will grow up alongside us. They will help clean the air. They will help keep our rivers and lakes clean. They will help make the oxygen that we and other animals breath and they will provide shade to help keep us cool. Now,
NOW, THEREFORE, I and all of us supporters of the Urban Forest Project, do hereby proclaim, to celebrate
ARBOR DAY TODAY AND EVERY DAY and we promise to protect, care for, and water these trees, and all trees, not only for our well-being, but for the well-being of all.
A proclamation made by Planting for Our Future students in celebration of Arbor Day 2016.
The Planting for Our Future Project seeks to raise awareness, increase understanding of Urban Forest issues, and further grow the City’s canopy all while using trees to teach students necessary curriculum. As part of this project we are offering teachers, school administrators and/or collaborating GRPS/parents funding, technical assistance, trees, or support to host an urban forest project or event within your school!
Any Grand Rapids Public School Teacher or Administrator, or collaborating GRPS/parent teams are eligible for funding. Ideal projects and events will involve or inform students, parents, and local residents in expanding, protecting, or enhancing our City’s Urban Forest. Now accepting fall applications!
